Everyone knows that Tenerife is a great holiday destination. Year-round warm and sunny weather conditions, fabulous beaches, spectacular volcanic scenery, and tourist-friendly infrastructure see thousands of Brits heading to the island each year.
And while I could add to the bulging amount of literature by further emphasizing these qualities over the next 500 words or so, it would perhaps be a little more beneficial to you if I pointed out some of the many other fantastic attractions you can experience on your Tenerife holiday.

Explore Europe’s biggest lava tube.
The island of Tenerife is one giant volcano (Mount Teide). The black volcanic beaches evidence this you’ll find dotted around the island – the golden sandy ones are man-made using imported African sand.
You can explore this volcanic scenery by heading underground into Europe’s largest lava tube, Cueva del Viento-Sobrado, situated in the northwest of the island.
The Cave of the Winds features 17km of large underground tunnels, all created by molten lava flowing beneath the surface. How many places do you get the opportunity to see that?
Climb Mount Teide
As well as getting beneath the volcano, you can also climb it. At 3,718m (12,200ft), the view from the top of Mount Teide is incredible, and upon reaching the summit, you can say you’ve stood atop the highest point in Spain and the third-highest volcano in the world.
Just be aware that a permit is required to reach the top, with access controlled to reduce the threat of erosion. You can secure one by applying online.
Spot some cetaceans
Tenerife is one of the best whale and dolphin spotting locations in the world, with the island not only being on a major migration route but also acting as the regular home for several species.
Head out on a boat tour for a chance to glimpse bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, and sperm whales breaching the surface, as well as any other of more than 20 migrating species cruising past Tenerife on their way from A to B.
Scuba dive
Thanks to its warm, clear waters, Tenerife is one of the best places in the world to don self-contained underwater breathing apparatus and dive beneath the waves.
Come face to face with friendly sea turtles and rays and bream, sea bass, wrasse, barracuda, amberjacks, octopus, and moray eel.
Sail to another island.
Tenerife isn’t the only island in the Canaries. Why not pop across to its nearby neighbor Gran Canaria – a quieter, smaller, more chilled-out version of Tenerife – or the tiny isle of La Gomera?
At the center of La Gomera is the Unesco World Heritage Site of the Garajonay National Park, a lush, mountainous region providing ample hiking opportunities.
As you can see, you can enjoy many amazing activities during your stay in Tenerife. And of course, the beaches and swimming pools are going nowhere if you fancy some lazy days on your holiday too. It would be a shame if sunbathing were the only thing you got up to while there.
